The New Mutants #44, OCT 86 (writer) Chris Claremont (artist) Jackson Guice
So, Professor X has got a kid, eh? Some sort of psi-powers and split personalities to boot? Kudos, Marvel.
I will say that Claremont’s run on New Mutants and Uncanny X-Men has been more than a little psi-heavy, but this is a welcome addition. And the name Legion makes it even more so.
There’s some pretty heavy equipment about to fall on Moira MacTaggert, but lickety-split, someone saves her. It couldn’t be David Haller, could it? But he can’t use any of his telepathic powers! It’s not him, but one of his alter-egos Jack Wayne! Lordy lordy!
Mirage is startled to receive a niggling from Rhane in trouble through their mind-link way over at the X-mansion. She gathers her crew to come to Rhane’s rescue by way of Limbo. Sunspot isn’t keen on this, but hitches a ride regardless of his apprehension.
You can tell he’s not a team player, even without his desire to travel through Limbo. Not that I mind his choice in Hawaiian shirts, but the kid’s now wearing a New Mutants uniform. For shame, Roberto.
Sunspot does come around to Magik’s aid by the end of the issue, however. They figure the only way to get Legion to cooperate is to whisk him off to Limbo where he can’t hurt anyone. Legion’s more scared of Limbo than Sunspot.
And while Sunspot still isn’t completely on board with Magik and her abilities, he comes through, just like a good teammate should.
(Sorry for the jump in issues, this is all that came in the box.)
